Climate Tucson welcomes Timothy M. Thomure, director of Tucson Water, and Katharine Jacobs, director of the University of Arizona’s Center for Climate Adaptation Science and Solutions and a professor in the department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science, for a panel discussion on one of the most important issues in our region’s changing climate: Water. Where does it come from, how will it fare as the region heats up and the population continues to increase, what are some of the solutions under consideration now to ensure a sustainable future.

Bios

Katharine Jacobs is the Director of the University of Arizona’s Center for Climate Adaptation Science and Solutions (CCASS) within the Institute of the Environment and is a professor in the Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science. Prior to joining the UArizona, Jacobs served as an Assistant Director in the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in the Obama Administration, 2010-2013, where she was the lead advisor on water science and policy and climate adaptation and served as director of the National Climate Assessment. Prior to her work in the White House, from 2006-2009 Jacobs was the Executive Director of the Arizona Water Institute, a consortium of the three state universities focused on water-related research, education and technology transfer in support of water supply sustainability. She has more than twenty years of experience as a water manager for the State of Arizona Department of Water Resources, including 14 years as director of the Tucson Active Management Area.

Timothy M. Thomure is the Director of Tucson Water, which provides potable and reclaimed water service to 730,000 people in Southern Arizona. A licensed Professional Engineer with 25 years of experience working in public utilities, private industry and consulting, Thomure’s areas of expertise include strategic planning, water supply, water recycling, and organizational development. He currently serves as President of the AZ Water Association and is a Past President of WateReuse Arizona. He also has served on the National Board of the WateReuse Association and the Water Research Foundation.
